On a recommendation, I started looking at work from the artist Roxy Paine. What followed was a stroll through his stunning collection of work. While not involving any living cultures, one of his collections showcases epoxy cast mushrooms under glass. I find these pieces particularly interesting as a literal framing of nature. Once cleaned up, contained, and safe, we can enjoy these fungi as art, even the parts involving death and decay.
As I've been researching, I've also been looking around at other artwork involving fungi. Some other pieces I found particularly inspiring were Zeger Reyers de/composition for john (cage), and the mold inspired textile work of Lizan Freijsen.
